HP EliteBook Folio G1 Review

HP Elitebook Folio G1for Gaming

The HP Elitebook Folio G1 is a super-slim laptop that introduces an unmatched design, ultra comfortable keyboard as well as a series of ports rivaling the MacBook. Laptop manufacturers sacrifice usability, bring in hard-to-type keyboards, avoid key ports and/or offer poor performance, in their bid to create the thinnest laptop. However the EliteBook Folio G1beats them hands down.

Design & Features

With its wafer thin, matte finished silver-aluminum chassis, the HP EliteBook Folio G1 remains an extremely handsome laptop, looking somewhat like the 12″ MacBook. However, the HP logo as well as a shiny silver hinge distinguishes it from Apple’s super thin laptop. HP has created the EliteBook Folio G1 to withstand bumps and falls. According to HP, this ultrabook survived 26 falls from various angles, from a height of 30,” onto hard surfaces. It also came out with flying colors in such tests for vibration, dust, high altitudes and shocks. However, its keyboard is not resistant to spills.

As to display, the EliteBook Folio G1 has 4K touch displays and 1080p nontouch displays, with both panels providing detailed images, although colors remained more vibrant on the 4K display.

Talking about audio, the Folio is equipped with Bang and Olufsen speakers that are mounted at the bottom, providing precise audio, that is loud enough. Turning to the keyboard, in spite of its ultra slim size, the Folio G1 is equipped with one of the most responsive and comfortable ultraportable keyboards around.

Security & Facial Login

The HP EliteBook Folio comes with numerous security features, thereby pleasing both business IT managers as well as users. It has standard PM encryption, along with Intel vPro remote management provided by its Core m7 CPU feature. As if these are not sufficient, the Folio includes an infrared webcam, to be used along with the Hello biometric login feature of Windows 10, and it works in even total darkness. But, if the user wears glasses, saying Hello will capture his/her image.

The EliteBook Folio comes packed with HP Client Security which is an extremely sound set of smart tools, drive encryption software, a password manager, as well as HP Spare Key, that lets the user log in even in case he/she forgot the password. It can be unlocked by designating a smartphone using Bluetooth.

With the Intel Core m7-6Y75 CPU, 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM, the Folio G1 is ultra powerful, in tasks like intense multitasking, and in performing high productivity work. It can perform tasks like editing photos, watching movies, minor video crunching, although nor for CAD work or gaming.
